Walking the (High) Line

Have you heard of the High Line Park? It's an old raised freight rail line along the West Side of Manhattan that the community has transformed into a public walkway. It runs from 30th St. to Gansevoort with a beautifully organic blend of architectural design and vegetation.

We walked on a brisk but quiet Sunday morning and I couldn't have felt more alive.  The remodeled rail line threads through some of Chelsea's more modern structures, behind what appear to be the dreamiest of living quarters, and one story up from the grime of the gutters.

There are vistas to peer down as you come upon each cross street, and to take advantage of some striking single point perspective photography as your boy lovingly derides you in the name of Stanley Kubrick.

There is really quite a romance to it. I can only imagine grabbing a few hot chocolates and walking the High Line for an uber-relaxed first date. You can, of course, take as much or as little time as you'd like... and it's free. Just darling, I say. Bonus points when you head back to street level- pop into the Chelsea Galleries near the block shown above!

I haven't actually been on the High Line but the pictures you took make it look wonderful, even in the cold
